Back in 2024, cottage baker Hannah approached me with a problem. She had a great product–delicious and bespoke sugar cookies for any occasion–but she felt like her successful business had outgrown its original Canva-generated logo. She needed someone with an eye-for-design to take her business to the next level.
Based on research and competitive analysis of other Chicago bakeries, I set out to design a logo that would stand out from the others, but still comfortably belong in her market. In the process, I learned a lot about Cottage Kitchens and the local laws governing their operations. Hannah’s main market would be local Farmer’s Markets, not grocery stores, so she needed branding that would fit in with the market scene as well. As well as a logo, she needed a new color palette, type pairings, and packaging to round out her new brand.
The resulting branding is playful and colorful. Customer’s come to Hannah for her creatively decorated cookies and friendly personality. As the center of the brand, I thought it was appropriate for her business’s visual language reflect that. The bright colors and spirited baking illustrations will make her stand out at the Farmer’s Market and on social media.
